Alternative Spring Breaks
Each year CCM students visit varying exciting locations to further their learning and serve others! A few previous visits have been to Meredan Connecticut, Jenkins Kentucky, Princeville Illinois, Chaclacayo Peru, and Banica in the Dominican Republic!
Alternative Spring Break trips for 2014:
We’re headed back to Jenkins, Kentucky to serve the people of St. George Parish. Central Appalachia is a mountain region rich in culture but also plagued by poverty, and Jenkins is located in the third poorest county in the U.S. Come spend your break bringing the love of Christ to people badly in need of Good News! We’ll help rebuild a decrepit old house into a homeless shelter, and work and pray with the Missionaries of Charity as they reach out to the poorest of the poor.
This year's faith formation trip will be close by in Washington D.C. We will stay with the Religious Sisters of Mary Immaculate, half a mile from the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. Experience Catholic culture through art, food, chant, liturgy, prayer and community life!
This year we’re going to serve at El Hogar San Francisco de Asis and el Hogar San Vincente de Paul in Chaclacayo, Peru. The residents of these homes are children with physical illnesses and deformities whose parents can’t afford their medical treatment. They stay in the homes as long as they are receiving care and then return to their families. Volunteers serve and clean up after every meal and help the children with their daily routine – brushing their teeth, moving around the home (for those who have trouble), doing their homework, traveling to Lima for doctors appointments, and playing in their free time. The kids LOVE all volunteers and are used to communicating with those who don’t speak Spanish.
Financial help is available for those who cannot afford the trip. Please speak with John More, Teresa Kolf, Catherine Distajo or Fr. Peter before the deadline.
